  1. Make ready 1 small size cabbage, shredded
  2. Make ready 1-2 tbsp. oil
  3. Make ready 2 dry red chilies
  4. Get 1 tsp. mustard seeds
  5. Prepare 1 tbsp. chana dal
  6. Prepare 1 tsp. split urad dal
  7. Make ready 2 slit green chilies
  8. Take 1 sprig curry leaves
  9. Make ready 1/4 tsp. asafoetida
  10. Prepare 1 tbsp. roasted peanuts (opt)
  11. Take to taste salt
  12. Take 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
  13. Take 2-3 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped (opt)
Instructions to make Cabbage Poriyal:
  1. Heat oil in a pan & temper with mustard seed and dry red chilies. After it stops spluttering, add chana dal, urad dal, green chilies, asafoetida and curry leaves. Saute for a few seconds.
  2. Add the cabbage, roasted peanuts (opt), salt and 1/4 cup water.
  3. Cover and cook on a low flame till done. Stir at intervals.
  4. Switch off the flame. Add the coconut and coriander leaves (opt).
  5. Serve as a side dish with either rice or chapattis. It goes very well with curd-rice or sambar-rice.
